My bleach “insurance policy”
If you’ve ever foiled hair, you know it can be a little… stressful.
You’re lifting, watching the clock, checking elasticity, hoping everything processes evenly, and quietly praying the hair comes out better than it went in. Especially on blondes. Especially on hair that’s already been through it.
For a long time, foiling felt like walking a tightrope. Even when I did everything “right,” I’d still worry about the integrity of the hair. And that stress? I hated it, for me and for my client.
That’s where K18 completely changed the game for me.
I don’t use it because it’s trendy. I use it because it protects the hair in a way I hadn’t seen before. Especially during chemical services like foiling. It helps keep the hair strong while it’s going through something that’s honestly kind of aggressive.
The best way I’ve found to explain it to clients is this:
K18 is like insurance for your hair.
You hope you never need insurance, but when something goes wrong, you’re really glad you have it.
Foiling is one of those services where damage can happen even when everything goes perfectly. Lightener is powerful. Hair history is unpredictable. K18 gives me a safety net so the hair doesn’t feel compromised, gummy, or fragile afterward.
And yes, it is an added cost.
But here’s how I frame it, and it usually clicks immediately.
I tell clients:
“I can absolutely foil your hair without it. But using K18 helps protect the integrity of your hair during the process, so you leave with strength, softness, and shine, not just lighter hair.”
Because what’s the point of being blonde if your hair feels fried?
Most clients aren’t upset once they understand that it’s not an upsell — it’s protection. It’s preventative. It’s me making sure their hair still feels good after the appointment, not just looks good when they leave.
And honestly? Clients appreciate knowing I care about the long-term health of their hair. It builds trust. They feel taken care of, not sold to.
From my side of the chair, it’s a no-brainer.
I’m less stressed during foils.
I can push results safely when needed.
Hair feels better immediately.
And I’m confident sending clients out the door knowing I didn’t sacrifice integrity for brightness.
K18 doesn’t replace skill. It doesn’t magically fix bad decisions. But it does support the work we’re already doing, and that’s huge.
At the end of the day, my goal isn’t just a good appointment. It’s hair that can handle the next one too. And if a small add-on helps protect that? It’s worth it, every time.
